Solbox provides server-side ad insertion solution for SMR


- Applying the server-side ad insertion solution ‘Ad Zipper’ within the SMR platform

- Ensuring transparency in playback counts by integrating ad and video into a single file.


Seoul, Korea – May 11, 2015 – Solbox (www.solbox.com), a Content Delivery Network (CDN) & video delivery solution provider, announced that it provides the server-side ad insertion solution ‘Ad Zipper’ to the online advertising agency Smart Media Rep (SMR).


SMR, a joint venture of SBS and MBC, handles the distribution of media clips and ad sales for seven broadcasting companies including terrestrial networks and general programming channels. SMR stopped supplying contents to YouTube last December due to differences over platform operation and ad sales matters. Currently, SMR supplies their contents to portal sites.


SMR has chosen Platform-in-Platform (PIP) to integrate SMR’s own platform within the video streaming platform to manage its own content distribution. For the ad insertion solution within the PIP, SMR has selected Solbox ‘Ad Zipper’.


Solbox ‘Ad Zipper’ is a server-side ad insertion solution that inserts ads in real time and more conveniently than existing client-side ad insertion solutions. It eliminates buffering between the ad and the video clip to ensure stable streaming. Ads can be inserted anywhere within the video as pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll formats. Thanks to its excellent compatibility, viewers enjoy a high-quality experience across all platforms.


In particular, ‘Ad Zipper’ supplies the ad and media as a single file to allow calculation of how many viewers actually viewed the video. View count statistics with ‘Ad Zipper’ are now totally transparent, which provides SMR with a solid foundation to promote its own ad sales and manage content distribution, leading to higher ad revenues.
