Background
SkyLife is South Koreas only satellite broadcasting service provider and a convergence media platform that provides satellite-IP convergence broadcasting services.
Through the development of satellite-IP convergence technology, SkyLife has released satellite-Android TV, uninterrupted in-vehicle broadcasting service SkyLife LTE TV (SLT), OTT TELBEE for TV, and Skylife AI (2019), which combines Google AI speakers for the first time in the world.
It is also introducing innovative IP-based services and is striving to become a leader in the broadcasting and communications market beyond the boundaries of satellite broadcasting. However, the satellite broadcasting service was heavily influenced by weather because it was serviced through satellite antennas.
To solve the issue, Skylife considered integration with the Solbox CDN solution.
Benefits
Watching TV without interruption even in rainy weather
Skylife provides video service through a satellite antenna, so you may have problems watching TV because the satellite reception signal is not good in bad weather.
Accordingly, in case of poor satellite reception due to bad weather, H.265/H.264 live video service using the RTSP protocol is provided without interruption from the set-top box in conjunction with the Solbox CDN so that viewer can watch a video using the network.
Stable delivery for large VOD content
Skylife provides nationwide video service based on a satellite broadband platform that has coverage throughout the Korean Peninsula. For this purpose, the MPEG-DASH protocol is also used to reliably supply large volume of VOD content.
